some positivity for your feed.

I just wanted to bring attention to some of my favorite things about the internet lately. Thank you and have a wonderful day.

  1. Someone knitted Bernie Sanders in his mittens and sold it for thousands of dollars and then donated the money to a charity food bank.
  2. Elon Musk is encouraging everyone to short stocks and buy cryptocurrency. Robinhood is furious, but no one cares.
  3. In that vein… DOGE is going TO THE MOON!
  4. You can buy a deed to Mars, and I have one acre of it. So does my brother.
  5. Spoon is probably one of the coolest apps ever — you can livestream audio, and people send you money for it. It’s not much, but still, it’s pretty cool.
  6. There are apps that pay you for listening to music and playing video games. Again, not much, but still awesome.
  7. ColourPop released an Animal Crossing inspired makeup collection (you best believe that I ordered one of the palettes).
  8. Weezer has a new album.
  9. More and more people are getting the vaccine. I got the first dose, and I’ll get my second on Star Wars Day.
  10. Film festivals have been… awfully different. But that means they’re more accessible to people who can’t make it because of x, y, z. I’ve seen some epic films because streaming services are sharing them for a limited time!
  11. I might have plans to start a podcast lately… 😉
  12. JoJo Siwa and Lil Nas X and Demi Lovato and and and… it’s so good to see so many queer people in the media.
  13. Spring is here, and my feed has been filled with flowers!
  14. In Lawrence, KS, legislators are talking about banning conversion therapy. Finally.

I hope this little dose of positivity does you good. I know I’ve been swamped in the massive pile of garbage that is the internet at the moment. Just remember to take time, smile, and remember that the world is beautiful when you look around! Have a wonderful weekend.

6 years on wordpress.

When did this happen? Have I really been here this long? Did I seriously open this account as an 11 year old?

When I was seven, I decided I would be a writer. Ten years later, here I am. Poetry published in six places, three other books in the works, planning for college.

Did little me know this was where I was headed? Do the people around me know how much it means to be living in a dream? There are people who have followed this blog for as long as I’ve been posting. Wow!

I get people asking me why I don’t care that I’m not monetized, or why I don’t get sponsorships or reviews. I get questions about why, being so young, I waste my time writing. It’s not a waste.

I get to engage with a community of writers who care about what I have to say. It’s rare that young, LGBTQ+ women are listened to on any platform. It means so much to see responses and engagements on this website. It’s amazing.

Six years of just learning who I am. Two years of sharing what I love. Three months of being a published author. I know what I want to be when I grow up: a writer. I can’t wait to keep growing and sharing my world with you lovely people. Thanks for sticking around.

be gentle with yourself.

Hi everyone. I don’t know who needs this message today, but I figure someone does, so I’m gonna write it for that person.

Today is hard for you. It might have been difficult to get to sleep last night or wake up this morning. It might have taken everything you had to make yourself breakfast, shower, wear clean clothes, brush your hair, and smile. Or maybe you aren’t smiling.

If not, try smiling right now. It may not feel quite right, like it doesn’t show how you feel today, but just try. Because it’ll feel just a little bit better than making a sad or angry face. Just a little bit.

Now, give yourself the space to be. Acknowledge that you are allowed to exist in your space today. Because you are. You are given your space to do what you will with it, so let it exist only for you. Fill it up.

Picture your day today. Maybe it consists of staying in bed, but maybe it means a morning commute to work or school. Perhaps it’s visiting a friend, family member. Or going on a trip to the grocery store. Whatever the tasks ahead, picture doing them gracefully. How can you go through the daily grind while still showing yourself an incredulous amount of love and support?

Breathe out any negative energy that’s sitting in your body. Breathe it all out. Then breathe in, breathe in the positive energy you deserve to feel. It should reverberate through your whole being because you know it’s what you need today.

Take a little extra time for yourself. If it needs to happen while you tie your shoelaces, do that. If you need to step out of a meeting to count to 100 before going back in, do so. What action can you take right now that would make you feel just a little more emotionally reinforced than you were five minutes ago?

Send a text to a loved one who might need a bit more love than you today. Step out of yourself and tell them you’re thinking of them because you’d like the same thing for yourself. Because you’re them today, too, and you’d want them to send you positive words of encouragement. While you’re at it, send those words to yourself.

Now sit up tall, feeling the strength in your belly and your chest and your legs. You are stronger than Wonderwoman. You have all the backbone of an alligator. You will conquer universes. Acknowledge that you have power.

Begin your day.

p.s. if you’d like, leave a comment about why you needed this today. maybe I can tell you something that would encourage you through the rest.
